Eyelid surgery is a popular and recommended procedure for those who want to see a fresher gaze in the mirror instead of tired-looking eyes. Who is eyelid surgery not recommended for?
Although eyelid surgery is a safe and widely used procedure, there are cases when it is not recommended or should be postponed.
It is always important to speak openly with your doctor about your medical history, illnesses and regularly taken medications. This allows the specialist to assess safely whether eyelid surgery is the right choice for you.
We do not recommend surgery if:
- you are pregnant or breastfeeding,
- you have a serious general medical condition, such as untreated cardiovascular disease, diabetes or a bleeding disorder,
- you have an active eye condition, such as inflammation or infection,
- you have a more serious thyroid or neurological condition that may affect healing,
- you have unrealistic expectations regarding the procedure and expect a complete facial transformation rather than an aesthetic improvement.

As with most plastic surgery procedures, both lower and upper eyelid surgery begins with a consultation. During this meeting, the plastic surgeon examines the patient and determines whether correction of both eyelids is necessary, or whether surgery on either the lower or the upper eyelid alone may be sufficient. Although in some cases it may be enough to operate on only one sagging eyelid, in practice we often find that a complete eyelid surgery procedure is usually needed to achieve the best result. Based on the consultation, a surgical plan is prepared, and once the required examinations have also been completed, the next step is the surgery itself.

How does eyelid surgery work?
The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia, which means it is completely painless. At the patient's request, it can also be performed under general anaesthesia.
During eyelid surgery, the plastic surgeon removes the excess sagging skin and the excess fatty tissue that causes under-eye bags from the eyelid area, then tightens the skin. Both lower and upper eyelid surgery are possible.
Upper eyelid surgery
In this case, the incision starts from the inner corner of the eye and runs above the eyelashes in the eyelid crease, continuing towards the more wrinkled skin at the outer corner of the eye. The plastic surgeon then removes the fat pads and excess skin tissue.
Lower eyelid surgery
In lower eyelid surgery, the fat pads are removed from the side of the eye socket through a hidden incision. This is known as the transconjunctival technique. The plastic surgeon then removes the excess skin through an incision made just below the lower lash line.

After eyelid surgery, a few hours of observation are required, but the patient can often go home the same day with an accompanying person.
As with most plastic surgery procedures, a follow-up examination at a pre-arranged time is also necessary after eyelid surgery.
During recovery, tightness may be felt around the eyelids and the eyes may often water. If tearing is bothersome for the patient, eye drops may be used to relieve the symptoms. Due to possible swelling, the eyes may not close perfectly for a while after surgery, but this naturally improves as healing progresses.
RECOVERY TIME AFTER EYELID SURGERY
Minor bruising may also occur after eyelid surgery, so it is advisable to wear sunglasses for 2–3 weeks. Eyelash tinting and make-up should be avoided during the first three weeks after surgery.
At the end of the procedure, the wounds are closed with fine sutures, which must later be removed. Suture removal can usually take place on the fifth day after the procedure. After this, the scars still need time to heal, but within a few weeks the surgery will practically be only a memory, and you can enjoy your fully rejuvenated gaze. Overall, the recovery time after lower and upper eyelid surgery is approximately 2–3 months; after this period, the final result of the surgery can be seen in its full beauty, and no further correction is usually needed for about 10–15 years.

A szemhéjplasztika egy olyan esztétikai beavatkozás, amely során a felesleges bőrt, zsírt vagy izomszövetet távolítják el a felső vagy alsó szemhéjról. Célja a tekintet fiatalosabbá, frissé és élettel telivé tétele.
Milyen típusai vannak a szemhéjplasztikának (felső, alsó, kombinált)?
A beavatkozás történhet a felső szemhéjon, az alsó szemhéjon, vagy mindkettőn egyszerre. A felső szemhéjplasztika főleg a lógó bőr okozta problémákat kezeli, az alsó szemhéjplasztika pedig a táskás, puffadt szem alatti területre nyújt megoldást.
Milyen problémákra nyújt megoldást a szemhéjplasztika?
A műtét csökkenti a szemhéjak megereszkedését, eltünteti a szem alatti táskákat, és fiatalosabb, nyitottabb tekintetet eredményez. Emellett javíthat a látótéren, ha a felső szemhéj bőre túlzottan lóg.
Hogyan történik a műtét (érzéstelenítés típusa, időtartam)?
A szemhéjplasztikát legtöbbször helyi érzéstelenítésben végzik, szükség esetén nyugtatóval kiegészítve. A műtét általában 1–2 órát vesz igénybe a kezelendő területtől függően.
Mennyi ideig tart a felépülés, mikor látható az eredmény?
A duzzanat és kisebb véraláfutások 1–2 hét alatt csökkennek, az eredmény pedig fokozatosan, a hegesedés és a duzzanat elmúlásával válik véglegessé, általában 4–6 hét alatt.
Milyen lehetséges mellékhatások és kockázatok vannak?
A leggyakoribb mellékhatások a duzzanat, enyhe fájdalom és elszíneződés. Ritkábban előfordulhat fertőzés, hegesedés vagy szemhéj alakjának enyhe változása. A konzultáción minden lehetséges kockázatról tájékoztatunk.
Hogyan kezelhetők a műtéti hegek, mennyi idő alatt halványodnak el?
A hegek speciális kenőcsökkel és rendszeres ápolással gyorsabban gyógyulnak, általában 6–12 hónap alatt válnak alig láthatóvá.
Mikor lehet újra sminkelni vagy visszatérni a napi tevékenységekhez?
A sminkelés általában 7–10 nap elteltével kezdhető újra, a könnyed napi tevékenységek pedig már a műtétet követő 1–2 hétben folytathatók.
Kinek ajánlott különösen a beavatkozás (pl. látótér szűkülés, fáradt tekintet)?
A szemhéjplasztikát különösen ajánljuk, ha a felső szemhéj bőre lóg, csökkenti a látóteret, vagy ha a fáradt, nehéz tekintet frissítésére vágysz.
Szabad-e kontaktlencsét használni a műtét után?
Kontaktlencsét a műtétet követő 1–2 hétben nem javasolt használni, hogy elkerüld a fertőzést és a szem irritációját.
Milyen utóápolási tanácsokat javasolt követni?
A hideg borogatás csökkenti a duzzanatot, kerüld a megerőltető fizikai aktivitást, és kövesd az orvos utasításait a seb tisztán tartására és a gyógyszerek alkalmazására.
Milyen az eljárás tartóssága — mennyi ideig tart a fiatalos, friss tekintet?
A szemhéjplasztika eredménye tartós, több évig megőrzi a fiatalos tekintetet, bár a természetes öregedési folyamat hatására a szemhéjak később ismét változhatnak.
